April 2005: Special Projects Team completes adds rails for Cecelia Loop
From Ben Summerour - "Attached are the
pictures of the railing that Charles Quinn and I built for Cecelia Loop, an
acquaintance of Joe Hirsch, who has Muscular Dystrophy. Charlie and I were
able to contribute some used lumber from our home treasure troves, but Joe
Hirsch paid for the stuff we did not have ( 2"x2"s). We had lot of fun doing
it and Cecelia was very appreciative. The Wood Butchers Strike Again!"
October 28, 2004: Our Club has completed another handicap ramp project for a local resident. Below are some pictures that Ben Summerour, Project Coordinator, took of the project. The Lion construction crew was as follows:
Ken Thrash Chief Engineer and Architect, Part Time Board Holder Charles Quinn Full Time Board Holder and Ken's overseer Joe Bosworth Chief Sawyer and Part Time Screw Driver Ben Summerour Full Time Screw Driver and Goffer
Ben reports "These guys near killed me working a very long day on Wednesday and then we finished up this morning, but it was truly a pleasure working with them. It was also a tremendous feeling of accomplishment for all of us to be able to help out a delightful lady who apparently is soon to be completely wheel chair bound with lung cancer. She and her husband were so thankful.
Home Depot provided materials ( plus delivery). The manager, Rob Smith, could not have been more cooperative.
The Dawsonville Lions undertake special projects from time-to-time. One such was the recent completion of a much needed handicapped access ramp for a local resident. Materials were provided by the resident, while the design and construction resources were all Lions. Lion Ken Thrash did the design work for this project and the work was completed by Ken and Lions Ben Summerour, Charlie Quinn, Chip Sweatte, Joe Bosworth, and Lum Edwards.
